Tummy health is largely responsible for the critical functions of the body’s digestive and immune systems, beneficial bacteria in your digestive system have the capability of affecting your body’s vitamin and mineral absorbency, hormone regulation, digestion, vitamin production, immune response, and ability to eliminate toxins, not to mention your overall mental health.

What is Bone Broth?

Bone broth has a rich history of being used in traditional Chinese medicine as a digestive tonic, blood builder, and kidney strengthener due to the high collagen content, bioavailable minerals, anti-inflammatory amino acids, and healing compounds that can only be found in bones and connective tissue.

Bones and connective tissue are storehouses for essential amino acids and minerals — many of which we don’t get enough of in our diets today. But bones also the only known source of the beneficial protein, type II collagen and gelatin.

Type II collagen has gained plenty of recognition for improving the appearance of skin— which is why bone broth is one of the best foods you can eat to combat aging.

Type II collagen is needed for:

  • Relieving joint pain
  • Soothing an inflamed digestive tract
  • Strengthening the gut lining (including IBS)
  • Maintaining bone density
  • Boosting immunity

Since you don’t snack on whole bones and tissue, you can unlock the powerful nutrients from the bones by simmering them into a tasty broth.

How do you make it?

Bone broth is made by simmering any kind of animal bone and tissue for at least 10 hours with veggies, herbs, and adding your favourite spices such as turmeric, garlic, and celery.

The slow simmer time of bone broth is crucial for all of the beneficial proteins, minerals, and compounds to be released from the bones. This also makes the nutrients incredibly easy for your body to absorb, so they can go where you need them most.

Basic Ingredients:

  • 1kg of pure grass fed organic beef bones (or organic chicken frames, turkey frames, or wild salmon frames)
  • 3 carrots - chopped
  • 2 leeks - chopped
  • 2 garlic heads, smashed or cut in half.
  • 3 litres filtered/distilled/boiled pure water.
  • Splash of organic apple cider vinegar.

Heat the water and add ingredients let simmer for minimum 10 hours, and filter into liquid only. Serve hot, or try chilled with ginger & honey. Store in air tight jars for up to a week.
