This lanky vegetable is a hybrid; first created in 1993, it's a cross between Broccoli and Chinese broccoli. It has small florets, long stalks, and a few small leaves — all of which are edible. Compared to the bitter flavor of regular BroccoliBroccolini is more mild, with a sweet, earthy taste.

Cooking or preparing Broccolini is similar to most vegetables, remember the more you cook it the more you mess with its wholefood raw goodness. Ligthly steaming may be your prefrred method, or a simple butter pan fry with pink salt way to prepare your Broccolini:

  1. In a large pan, heat butter until it is melted on medium high.
  2. Add olive oil.
  3. Add broccolini, toss frequently until browned and bright green, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add salt, toss over broccolini.
  5. Add water, cook until water is evaporated and broccolini is soft, another 5 minutes.
  6. Serve hot.

Broccoli is high in many nutrients, including fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, iron and potassium. Broccoli also contains more protein than most other vegetables. Broccoli can be enjoyed both raw and cooked, but recent research shows that gentle steaming provides the most health benefits.

This lovely fresh broccolini is produced by Mt Whitestone Farms, Grantham Australia. Gary and Kathy Harm (the dedicated owners of Mt Whitestone Farms) ably assisted by their son, James, his wife, Ashleigh, and their children.

Mt Whitestone Farms believe that the passionate efforts put into the farm by our family makes our produce extra special.

They also believe that our use of Demeter BD methods will further our goal of leaving the land undepleted after each cropping cycle, so that future generations can continue to enjoy a sustainable farming environment.

Storing your amazing broccolini:

Refrigeration is essential. Keep broccolini in the bottom of your fridge.  It is cooled super fast on the farm, and packed in ice to travel, which ensure's it's freshness. As with carrots it's a good idea to restrict the air flow around the broccolini.  As it's basically a flower it even helps to pop the stem into a small container of water.

Storage recommendation: As our organic fruit and vegetables are natural and not treated with any preserving agent, we recommend that that they are kept in the fridge or cool temperatures to slow down any ripening if not being eaten once received.
