What is bone broth?

Bone broth has a rich history of being used in traditional Chinese medicine as a digestive tonic, blood builder, and kidney strengthener due to the high collagen content, bioavailable minerals, anti-inflammatory amino acids, and healing compounds that can only be found in bones and connective tissue.

How do you make it?

Bone broth is made by simmering any kind of animal bone and tissue for at least 10 hours with veggies, herbs, and adding your favourite spices such as turmeric, garlic, and celery.

The slow simmer time of bone broth is crucial for all of the beneficial proteins, minerals, and compounds to be released from the bones. This also makes the nutrients incredibly easy for your body to absorb, so they can go where you need them most.

Basic broth recipe

Ingredients –

  • 1kg of pure grass fed organic beef bones (or organic chicken frames, turkey frames, or wild salmon frames)
  • 3 carrots - chopped
  • 3 celery sticks - chopped
  • 2 leeks.
  • 1/2 head garlic, smashed.
  • 3 litres filtered/distilled/boiled pure water.
  • Splash of organic apple cider vinegar.

Heat the water and add ingredients let simmer for minimum 10 hours, filter the broth and store in chiller, or air tight jars for up to a week. Let simmer closed, or leave off the lid to evaporate and condense.
